Anti-Caste Aesthetics in Tamil Cinema: A Workshop

When
, to

Join us in conversation with keynote speaker, Dr. Swarnavel Eswaran, for a film screening and panel discussion series. This workshop will open up the question of caste in Tamil films, their aesthetics of division and discrimination, as it emerges both in front of the camera and behind it. Through film screenings and curated discussion panels, attendees will be given the opportunity to critically engage with global Tamil cinema’s continuous offenses in ideological propagation, the stereotyping and erasure of Dalit lives, as well as the new wave of anti-caste films spearheaded by a new set of directors. The workshop will act as a platform for dialogue and critical conversation between films and the revolutionary ideas of B.R. Ambedkar and other critics of the caste system, students and educators, artists and community leaders. Date and Time: Fri, Mar 20
